Our Classes

In classes, you will work in a group environment focused on your dog’s needs.

See below for the different classes we currently offer and check the Class Schedule page for more details about when they are being offered.  Please be advised our Thursday evening walk-in class requirements have changed:

Thursday 7:15 PM class is a drop-in class for those who would like to train for the AKC Community Canine Certificate.  Successful completion of Canine Good Citizen is required prior to attending this class.It is intended for anyone who would like to work towards Therapy Dog Certification. Class fee is $8.00 per week.  We will be going downtown Battle Creek to do part of our training.  Please wear proper shoes for walking.

Social Manners

Prerequisites:

For dogs 14 weeks and older
Walking with Leash Private lessons recommended for 14 weeks and under
Preregistration is required
This is a 6 week course

This is our beginner obedience class. The coursework is focused on building everyday living skills for a polite canine companion in a group environment. We will work to build a positive relationship between dog and handler, all while creating a foundation for advanced training. This class teaches YOU how to train your dog on these behaviors:

  1. Loose-leash walking
  2. Polite greetings
  3. Going to a place (“go to bed”)
  4. No Jumping
  5. Sit
  6. Down
  7. Stay
  8. Wait
  9. Attention to handler (“look”)
  10. Leave it

Canine Good Citizen

Prerequisites:

This is a 4 week course
Test night is week 4
Test fee is included in tuition
Preregistration is required

This program was started in 1989 by the American Kennel Club. It was designed to distinguish dogs who can demonstrate good manners at home and in the community. This intermediate obedience class is not only a great step for pets and owners who want more challenge in their training, but also for those looking for a solid foundation before proceeding to other dog sports including Agility, Rally Obedience, Competitive Obedience, Tracking, and more. This class is a great start for those working toward having a Therapy Dog.

Urban Canine Good Citizen

Prerequisites:

This is a 4 week course
This course is not suitable for those with physical limitations
Test fee is included in tuition
Preregistration is required

New from the American Kennel Club! It’s Canine Good Citizen, gone Downtown! Achieve a well-mannered pup in the busy city atmosphere. (Not to mention, serious fun taking your pal to new places!) THis class tests your pet’s abilities in a whole new environment.

Community Canine

Prerequisites:

Prior Completion of Intermediate CGC required
Test night is week 4 (fee included in tuition)
This class is not suitable for those with physical limitations

Our most Advanced course currently offered in Group Obedience. Achieve and maintain a respectful, well mannered companion in public and at home. Classes are held indoors with real world distractions, and outdoors in open fields and busy parks. The coursework is based upon the criteria needed to pass The AKC’s Community Canine Test, which will be held on the final session. Let your pet be recognized for their skills, smarts, and teamwork!

Policies

  1. All classes must be paid in full at the time of registration.
  2. Sorry, but we are unable to provide refunds or exchanges, no exceptions.
  3. If you have a reactive dog, please discuss your dog’s behavior with one of our trainers prior to class.
  4. If your dog acts aggressive, you will have one warning. On the second occurrence, you will be excused from class without a refund. Dogs with known behavioral issues should not take these classes; contact us for alternative options.
  5. Children under 12 years of age are not allowed to handle dogs during class. Children aged 12 and older may be able to handle dogs at the discretion of the trainer.
